Counting Down the Days

Maybe it's because it's that time of year, everyone in my particular age bracket seems to be in the midst of exam season while also looking forward to the holiday season or maybe it's just a coping mechanism of some kind but it's sad that so many people are constantly counting down the days til their next holiday, or their next vacation.

I, by no means am free of this habit. I am constantly looking towards the future, evaluating my academic path, career path, relationships but I never have found myself counting down the days. Sure someone could find me saying "see you in less than 2 weeks!" but that's a lot different than updating my facebook status, BBM status and tweeting "12.5 days ♥". I feel that it would make the days I'm living in NOW more mundane and seemingly pointless. Why count down the days when you can do SO much in 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 days (you get the point).

Perhaps it's different for everyone, maybe counting down the days helps one get through the stress and nuisance of exams or mediocrity of life. But I love those little moments, those moments I get to walk to the library with my best friends, when I get to constantly distract and bug the people around me to share a really funny joke, to procrastinate by discussing the mysteries of life and religion and all that jazz. Never for a million years would I wish those moments away, let alone count down for the next "big" thing to happen.

Pens are a Scam

Last Wednesday I bought two new pens from the campus bookstore because my favourite pen I was using to make notes ran out during appropriate. Today, as I am studying for my 4th exam tonight, my new pen is starting to run out. WHAT A SCAM! It's exactly what they wanted! For me to by a decent pen, have it run out, think it's because of all the "hard work" I am doing and buy more and more. Well no, my friends I will not buy more of your crappy pens. Perhaps all the cheap but trying to be nice pens are a huge scam, I guess that makes sense looking back on it. Should have bought that box of pens or even that $300 pen, but no more of these fake impostor pens. ARGH.

Conversation running through my head at the moment:

"I want to watch Scrubs, or maybe Grimm"

"No you should study!"

"I should tweet about this!"

"No, Deanna, just study"

"Okay, I'll just watch Once Upon a Time tonight....and I'll blog about this conversation instead! HAHA"

"And then you will tweet this blog post, won't you?"

"You know me too well...."

The Past While

Due to the crazy month of November in terms of last midterms, papers and trying to start studying for exams, the blog has taken a bit of a back seat in this life of mine. So to feel you in with some highlights I decided to present them as gifs. Yay!

Watched Crazy Stupid Love TWICE in the past week and it's such a great surprise of a movie!

Had a mini road trip to Toronto to see Tegan and Sara's screening of States, India and For the Most Part with the coolest friends Danica and Farrah.

Started watching the new show Once Upon a Time and LOVE it. Love how it's not a straightforward show and you have to try to figure out what's really going on - no wonder the creators of the show are worked on Lost.

Home this weekend to celebrate my Dad's birthday which was really this past Monday. I missed my kitties.

You Can Talk the Talk but You Can't Walk the Walk

While out for a night with amazing friends at the on campus pub on Thursday, I courageously asked a fellow student of the male variety why he wasn't growing a moustache, after all it is Movember and all and I expect this month to be a great time for all guys, just like how great October was for breast cancer awareness (kudos to all the professional sports teams who really took that one this year). He responded with something along the lines of "I choose to actually create awareness instead of having an excuse to grow some facial hair." Well I say poo to you sir, poo on you. I think the moustache is a HUGE part of the awareness, and it's all for raising funds AND fun! It's like choosing not to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness or purple to support LGBT groups.

Sure you can talk the talk but you can't walk the walk at all.

Post Grad Dreams

In case you didn't already know I kind of, really want to go to law school. I've been quite obsessing over it for the past year or so, reading every school's website and admission books, reading articles and now pouring over forums. I've always been afraid to post something about law school because the fact that people will know about this dream and HUGE goal of mine really scares me. Putting it out there creates so much pressure for me to perform and actually make this happen, not that I wouldn't either way but now people may actually be interested in my results? Who knows.

But here's to that extra little boost of added pressure. I want to go to law school. I need to go to law school. I can get into the exact details later but this is a dream, my dream, something I really love. I love having this dream. It certainly keeps me busy at least.

Why November Sucks

November is my least favourite month. Mostly because it is precisely the most boring, sad, not fun month out there. I mean what is there to look forward to in November....Remembrance Day? Nothing against Remembrance Day or anything but it's not one of my top 10 holidays, seasons, days or anything really. It's probably the dreariest of seasons, in between that crisp fall and snowfall, just cold fog and rain and overall blah feeling. Do you stick your beloved fall jacket or convert to the winter warrior? Awful time of year I tell you, awful. Here, I'll make it more clear.
  • January - First month of the year! New beginnings and a brand new semester to look forward to.
  • February - Valentine's Day (eww..but kind of something to look forward to in the least) and Reading Week!
  • March - Beginning signs of Spring (hopefully)
  • April - School is ending, the sun is beginning to shine and can head back to those fall/spring jackets
  • May - The most beautiful month! Not too hot and not too cold.
  • June - My birthday month of course PLUS camp starts!
  • July - It's summer so it's pretty cool
  • August - See July
  • September - BACK TO SCHOOL. Oh boy, I love school.
  • October - One of THE best months. Gorgeous colours, beautiful weather, Thanksgiving AND Halloween
  • November - poop
  • December - Snowy bliss, advent calendars, Christmas, family and friends

See what I mean?

Pretty Design, Cute Design, Pretty, Pretty....November gets an oven?!

On another awful note, how horrible is it that there is not a single Gap in Guelph? Why has this not been fixed? I have an instore credit and I'm going to have to travel to another city to use it?! Now Guelph really does feel like rural-esque city. Moo.

Happy Birthday, Best Friend

Oh, hello there! And Happy Halloween.

This is just a little but very special message to my best friend of 9 years or so.

Happy 20th Birthday, Ryan!

I hope you're having a fabulous, not so cold, kind of relaxing day!

But don't forget...

To have TONS of fun tonight on this awesome day

Just try not to make this face that often, it will really scare a lot of people.

Hockey Player Crush of the Day: Francois Beauchemin

blue banner

Francois Beauchemin
Anaheim Ducks

Doesn't the name "Francois"just about make you swoon?! I know, right. After first being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, of course, he went to on to play for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs and now the Anaheim Ducks. Hes scored 409 goals in his career to date! Now I don't know hockey stats that well but that sounds alright to me.

P.S. His wife's name is Marie Claude. Francois and Marie Claude?! How freakin' adorable is that?!

I have been loving the ideas of maxi skirts and dresses from afar for awhile now. I do have two dresses that are maxis but they're just not the type of thing you really wear on a normal day if you know what I mean. I want a nice, wonderful, plain maxi skirt that is just fabulously casual with a little bit of sophistication. I just find it so hard to buy something for myself, it's so much easier to rationalize an irrational purchase for someone else.

Course Selection Round 7

Next semester will be my SEVENTH semester of university! Sometimes I still feel like I am in first year...especially when I'm studying for midterms and exams and find myself yelling at my notes in front of me in frustration. Either way I got every class that I wanted/needed to take, it pays off to make your entire course schedule in first year I'm telling you! So here they are in no particular order:

ASCI 1010 Society and Science II
PSYC 2310 Social Psychology
PSYC 2040 Research Statistics
PSYC 3850 Intellectual Disabilities
FRHD 4320 Social Policies

That's right, my friends I am taking a course in EVERY year next semester. It kind of feels wrong, cause I guess it is but that's what happens when you have a quarter life crisis in the middle of university. At least life is figured out....for now.

University Tip #4

University Tip #4 - Professors and TAs

See that professor infront of you? Yea, that scary middle-old aged man/woman that knows everything there is to know about whatever they're telling you? (first of all, that's not really the case, they never know everything) They once sat in that exact same seat that you are sitting in RIGHT NOW. They're not aliens that were dropped on your campus to teach all the minute details of Darwin's theory or Freud's insanity. They actually went through the exact same adventure you are beginning yourself!

One of the hardest things that I have gone through in university is trying to get to know my profs. Rarely are they going to get to know you so you actually have to make an effort (whoa!) and meet with them yourself. Maybe you'll find that you don't need to meet with them. You are either doing really well in the course or you claim to know what you're doing wrong and how to fix it yourself and that's fine. But the way to make your life and your time at university more enjoyable is to get to know the person who is teaching you all this stuff. They have really cool interests of their own. Don't think I'm an expert on these in the least because I'm not and I still have issues going to speak with a prof whether it's at their office or just after class, it's hard! So here are some ice breakers in case you want to make this happen but have no idea on how to get the ball rolling:

1. You want to discuss the mark you received - whether it's good or bad
2. You want to discuss how to go about studying or writing the next assignment - come prepared! tell them your own ideas and ask for their input
3. Just drop in during their office hours and discuss your plans for your future and if they have any advice - some profs love this stuff and some might not, you have to become a good people reader!
4. Drop in to discuss class material - whether it's confusing or fabulously interesting
5. Google them. Find out their research interests and drop in a few comments on that - usually highly thought out comments or you'll just seem like you're trying too hard.

Worse comes to worse check out to see what other people have said about them and what to expect. Don't take everything seriously on this website since most people post on there when they are will pissed off about something or did amazingly well in their class.

And don't forget the TAs, they're usually marking all your stuff anyways so drop in with them too and help them put a name to a face.

Today, thanks for the help of all my lovely friends I have managed to successfully put hundreds of photos on my computer. Finally! This means three things:

1. I have pictures from two years ago until present!
2. I can take pictures and put them up on here!
3. No more photobooth pictures everyday! (oh how I will them though)

And in honour of new found pictures, let's reminisce on the wonderful moment of getting a new car. My baby, Sally (yes the name has still stuck) is doing very well and is SUPER on gas. She's quickly becoming one of my most reliable friends. She always is playing the best music and helps me stay safe. If I was a car I think I would be very similar to her if you know what I mean.

Here we are after I took her home for the first time:

XL Double Double

After having a short texting conversation with my friend Mark today (what has our world come to?! A texting conversation?!) about his insane coffee addiction, I decided an XL TIM HORTONS DOUBLE DOUBLE was exactly what I needed before my night class tonight. It's going to be a good one and my eyes are already popping out my head and my fingers moving QUICKLY!

Happy XL Coffee to YOU!

Look At Me Go

Hey, hey! Look, it's my very first "feature". And I'm so happy my first feature of my little life is taking place over at How to be a Redhead, how so very appropriate. Make sure you check out this wonderful site, it's pretty awesome. In honour of this milestone I thought I'd write a post all about being a redhead.

Why I love being a redhead:
1. You can notice me from a distance
2. If I can't come up with a good accessory to wear, I've always got my hair
3. People always ask, "is that your natural hair colour?" Why yes, yes it is.
4. I enjoy my natural pale skin and my funny pale tans
5. Sometime pimples can be disguised as freckles
6. I throughly enjoy curly and straight red hair
7. I have never plucked my eyebrows because their so light
8. You can't tell if I haven't shaved my legs in awhile (see #7)
9. I have fun random freckles in fun places
10. Certain colours really make redheads look amazing (seriously, more than other hair colours)

Oh hey there blog, I guess we both got busy with our own respective lives but here's to hanging out again! Today was a pretty fun(ny) day. Stephanie, one of my bestest friends, tweeted that she really wanted to see the Arkells in London tonight so I tweeted her back and said "we should go!". So long story short she worked out all the logistics, got us tickets and we're heading down tonight after her calculus midterm (did I mention she also has a chemistry midterm tomorrow morning...don't worry I warned her). So I'm pretty excited about all this spontaneity! WOOOO!

For awhile now my mind has constantly been on hair. Long hair, short hair, straight hair, wavy hair. Hair is amazing. And mine is getting so boring. It's at that awkward length between short and kind of long and it's not curly or straight anymore.

For example:

Straight Hair

Curly Hair

My Hair: None of the above.

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend, all you Canadians!

This weekend I will be spending time with family and friends and my precious textbooks. I won't be blogging (hopefully) cause that will mean that either:
a. I am not spending enough time with the people I love or
b. I am not spending enough time studying/working

So have a lovely weekend blogosphere and I will see you next week.

 Remember making these Thanksgiving crafts:
